Change only happens when people choose to act

Health is a universal issue, and we all have to be part of the solution, in whatever capacity we are able. There are some pretty incredible organizations working to promote advancement and equality in treatment and care worldwide. We’re proud to call many of them partners, and we want to help you get involved with them.

SEED Global Health

Work:

Seed Global Health believes in a future in which every country has a robust health workforce that is able to meet the needs of its population. They place volunteer health educators from the U.S. into medical and nursing teaching roles across five countries, building the capacity of future practitioners and their clinics, communities, and country health systems. By bolstering the pipeline of health care providers who have local knowledge and deep ties to the region, we can help save lives and improve health in Africa.

Here are a few ways you can help Seed ensure healthier communities and a healthier world:

  • Donate to support Seed’s ongoing work.
  • Sponsor a Seed volunteer to help educate doctors, nurses, and midwives.
  • Volunteer to help teach the next generation of health professionals in Africa.

Programs

The Global Health Service Partnership is a public-private collaboration between Seed Global Health, the Peace Corps, and the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). Established in 2012, the GHSP program is a novel federal initiative addressing vast shortages of health professionals in many parts of the world.

GHSP is committed to helping increase clinical care capacity and strengthen health systems in resource-limited settings by cultivating the next generation of local doctors and nurses. The program places U.S. health professionals alongside local medical and nursing faculty counterparts to meet the teaching needs identified at each partner institution.

In the launch year of 2012-2013, GHSP placed 30 doctors and nurses at 11 training institutions in each of its three partner countries: Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda. For the 2014-2015 program, 42 GHSP clinical educators are currently working at 13 sites across Malawi, Tanzania, and Uganda.
